A Private Tutor Turned Data Scientist: Career Transition Story

Early Career Experience
My name is Sourav and I hail from Assam, one of the seven sisters of the Northeast. I am currently employed as a Production Executive at Dalmia Cements. With regular changes in my shifts which include both day and night shifts, Saturdays and Sundays are both working days for me. The same days are also when I have classes at Board Infinity. After discovering my passion for Data Analytics, I didn't let the exhaustion from work deter me from learning Data Science.
I would tell you without exaggerating, that learning and gaining knowledge is my hobby. There’s something else too that I am passionate about and it is photography. I have even won a photography competition recently. Learning new things is my favorite one of all. I am not bragging but my teachers used to appreciate me a lot as I was always a good student.
But unfortunately, I did not perform well in competitive exams for pursuing engineering so later I opted to study B.Sc with Chemistry.
After accomplishing my academic career, I could not find a suitable job for myself. Therefore, I started giving private tuition in Chemistry. But, something didn’t feel right. After a while, I felt like it was not what I had planned for my future, and wanted a steady income. I started eagerly applying for jobs on various job portals. That is when I got a call from an organization and landed my current job with them. It is good to work with them but I do not feel passionate about the work.
The possibility of career transition didn't occur to me until too late. Thankfully, Board Infinity's ads caught my eyes while scrolling through the web. After being informed about the online certification courses, I thought of giving it a shot. After receiving excellent guidance from the counselor of Board Infinity, I got an exact view of what to expect from the online data science course. Something that I only wanted to give a shot back then, has now become my passion!
Learning at Board Infinity
Board Infinity has been an amazing experience for me! Data Science is a field in which I started off as a complete newbie. However, the BI foundation course was of great help. Before that, I didn't even know there was such a thing called Tableau. Now, I can design my own dashboards easily. I am extremely grateful to my coaches for being so helpful. Now, it is also possible for me to do coding by myself. As a person, I believe it is very important to do what you are interested in and passionate about, and I can say with 100% conviction that I love Data Science, especially Data Analytics. In my first Hackathon Competition, I scored 92 points. Although it wasn't great, it was a good beginning.
My Future Plans
One day, I hope to work for Google. My dream is to work with successful and passionate people like Sundar Pichai. As far-fetched as it may sound, we shouldn't let our dreams be limited, especially when we are passionate about something.
